When age permits, you may automatically advance to the next class. If you have a birthday mid-season, it is your decision if you should advance to the next age group. For instance, if you are competing in the Junior Novice class and turn 14 mid season, it is your discretion to advance.
A Junior racer (age 14 to 17) may petition to advance to the next class or division. The racer must submit their petition to MWR one week prior to the event. See the Competition Guidelines for additional information. Petitions need faxed to 208-882-7299.If a racer is new to MWR but has racing experience, he or she may submit a racing resume and request placement in a particular class. MWR will make the final determination on class placements.

What kind of safety gear do I need and where do I get it?
Safety is the number one priority. Upper body protection, full-face helmets, and shin guards, and boots with 8” uppers are some of the necessary equipment. Specific instructions can be found in the MWR Rulebook. If you have questions that are not addressed in the rulebook, please send a message to Mountain West Racing It is your responsibility to come prepared to meet technical and safety inspections.

What about bib numbers and sled numbers?
Clear, legible numbers are crucial and there are specific details regarding size and color (refer to the MWR rulebook for more information). If numbers cannot be read while the sled is moving, the driver stands a good chance of not being scored properly. It is the responsibility of the driver to have readable numbers. This is what you should know about numbers:
Sled Numbers - minimum 6" to 8" high by 3/4" wide placed on a contrasting color base.
Bib Numbers - minimum 8" high by 1" wide

What is a typical SnoCross weekend like?
“Check-In” for racers and their crew, and late registration, is Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 PM at a designated location. At Check-In, racers and crew will receive a weekend access wristband after signing the insurance waiver or release. This wristband will allow access to the facility and pit area. Additional information follows:

  • Pre-Race Safety Inspection / Drivers Meeting / Practice
Each race day begins with pre-race safety inspections. Racers competing on that day are required to bring themselves and their sled to the Start Leg of the track in “Race Ready” condition. The inspection will identify if the required sled safety equipment and rider safety gear conform to the rules. Inspection times will be posted on the weekend race order.
The Race Director will conduct a Driver’s Meeting each morning prior to competition. Racers competing on that day are required to attend this meeting. Competitors not in attendance may forfeit practice. Meeting times will be posted on the weekend race order.
Following the Driver’s Meeting a short practice session will precede the day’s racing. Racers are to practice in groups that include racers in their respective divisions. Youth Racing competitors are to practice last and should never practice in a group that includes Senior competitors. Practice may be cancelled because of time, weather, snow conditions, or other factors, as determined by the Race Director.
  • Staging / Racing
Each day Qualifying Moto Sheets will be posted on the staging board as soon as they are available. Every race is numbered. It may be helpful to write your race numbers on duck tape and stick in on your sled. A flip sign is visible in the staging area displaying the race currently staging. If for any reason you are unable to compete in the race you are randomly assigned it is your responsibility to notify the staging official immediately. If you have any questions, talk to an MWR Race Official.
  • Results / Awards
Typically, final race results will be posted on the staging board within a half hour after racing is completed. If you have any questions regarding these results you should bring them to the attention of the MWR Race Officials in or near the MWR trailer. Generally, the awards are presented within 30-45 minutes after the completion of the final event, at the race location.
How do I get a refund?

The current refund policy is addressed in the ISR section of the MWR Rulebook under REGISTRATION AND ENTRY:
No refunds of entry or other fees will be made at sanctioned events after registration is closed, unless the event is cancelled or rescheduled by a ruling of the Race Director (RD), after which time fees will be returned.

In an effort to be fair and work with racers that may have unexpected changes in their plans. MWR may return entry fees under our discretion:

  • Entry fees may be refunded in full, when MWR is notified prior to the close of Friday night check-in, that the racer will be unable to attend an event. Confirmed communication with a registration official must occur by calling either (307) 413-2359 or (208) 870-6057.
